Why Recruiters should care about the FCSA

What is the FCSA?

The Freelancer and Contractor Services Association (FCSA )  is an independent trade association for professional employment service providers. They set high compliance and ethical benchmarks for the industry and act as a united voice for the freelance and contractor industry. Members of the FCSA are highly dedicated to compliance, operational standards and shaping the future of the industry for the better.

As a recruiter – why should you care? Here are 3 really good reasons:

1) Stringent membership criteria

At Liquid Friday we are rightly proud to be full members of the FCSA. In the massive industry of contractor support and payroll services, only 14 other service providers can say the same.
Members are independently reviewed against the association’s robust
Code of Compliance  on an annual basis. The assessors are regulated accountants and lawyers and are proven experts within the field.
To ensure total transparency, copies of all documentation and audit findings are sent to HMRC as an integral part of the selection and review process. In short, the bar is set very high.

2) Takes the stress out of selecting your PSL

  • Paye tax and NI
  • Minimum wage requirements
  • Holiday and statutory payments
  • Over-arching employment contracts
  • Right to work and ID checks
  • Temporary worker expenses (including SDC check for Travel and Subsistence)
  • Access to a workplace pension
  • Full employment rights
  • RTI reporting
  • VAT obligations
  • Health & Safety
  • Data protection

In addition to adhering to the FCSA’s Compliance Code, all members must agree with the FCSA’s charter which sets out the minimum standards expected of providers.
Why waste your time on a lengthy PSL selection process when the FCSA has already done all that hard work for you?

Backed by the REC

The FCSA’s rigorous code of conduct means that The Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC) advises its members to use only FCSA compliant companies. In fact all umbrella companies must be members of the FCSA before they can be granted REC business partner status.
The REC’s CEO Kevin Green confirmed, “We are happy to recommend to all REC members who use or are looking to use a third party supplier of contractor accountancy or umbrella services, to use FCSA compliant members to minimise their risk”.
