Cost of CSCS card set to rise from September

From this September, the cost of a skills card issued by the Construction Skills Certification Scheme is to rise to £36, that’s a rise of 20% from the current fee of £30.
The increase will take effect from the 1st September 2018 and is the first price hike in 8 years.

Leading construction skills certification

CSCS is the top skills certification scheme within the UK construction industry.

A CSCS card provides evidence that construction site workers have the required training and qualifications to perform their job. It’s a prerequisite for the majority of construction site contracts.

CSCS Chief Executive, Graham Wren, explained the price rise:

“We have managed to maintain the current card price for the last eight years however inflationary pressure, together with increased costs associated with combating fraudulent activity, have pushed our costs up to the point where the current price is not sustainable. In addition, with our current contact centre provider CITB having served notice to exit the service contract, the CSCS Board has agreed to invest in new technology and systems to ensure the application process is modernised.”

He added: “Modernising the application process is a key priority for the CSCS Board and the additional investment will ensure the card continues to add value and play its part in improving standards and safety on UK construction sites.”

Applying for a CSCS card

Anyone applying for a CSCS card needs to prove they have the training and qualifications necessary to carry out their duties and must apply for the card appropriate to their occupation.

The requirements can be checked using the online cardfinder which will confirm which type of CITB Health, safety and environment test needs to be passed.
